A memorable encounter, as I learned to create human connections in a changing world
I went a few years ago in a meeting with a potential customer, an accountant entrepreneur.
It was that Covidid era, with the face masks inside.
The lady told me that she does not believe in “these online things” and that until we physically see each other, she has nothing to discuss.
And I went to a relatively central area, with style houses retreating, with a high ceiling, a detail that I observed later, after sitting.
I was at the beginning with the direction and establishing part of the objectives, I still did not understand the processes and the nature of the accounting work, beyond a primary accounting that I remembered from childhood, when my father had hired a second accounting work.
It was during that period of gallop inflation when everyone worked to give stability to family members and children, something that infuses and a certain work discipline, which is now no longer a priority.
I remember that it was my father’s dream to make an accounting program, but it seemed difficult to reach all the accountants, even if I did not understand then that the way of working a balance hides a lot of creativity and that there are more divergences.
For me it seemed like a robotic process and a marketing battle between my possible accounting program and others on the market, which were then leader and who now disappeared or came up.
On the other hand, I had the opportunity to develop a billing system, somewhere around 2010, and I was in various business visits to the accounting that worked for a participation that included a company with many buildings for legal people from various cities in the country.
I know they explained things in “accounting” terms which, in fact, have hidden a relatively simple process of emission of invoices and monitor their entrances. The control part was delegated to a person of Big 4, with whom he was friction, because he was not of the same species.
The accountants were automatically working on the fire of those invoices and had so many files on the desk that it was not clear where the office ends and where the accountant begins, because the entire office, seen from afar, seemed a complex intergalactic creature, with synthetic and analytical tentacles, with different ends of conscientious analysis and super precision, like a great agreement. It was like a Yin-Yang in a fragile balance, but which, magically, has finally given the debt equal to credit.
To be useful to the leadership of the project, I had to give each head of this accounting hydra of the usefulness of digital and centralized work, to convince them that we can carry out correct calculations and that this analog control, with the pencil, that everyone exercises on some cities in the country, costs more and generated errors that could be prevented. But they were afraid that they would be distributed if the digitization had come to us. Do you play known?
So I had some points of reference from the galaxy of the accountants, but I tell you more, because I don’t have so much the talent of Cărtărescu to be branched, which we forget where I started.
Entering this house between the two wars, I was welcomed by gross indignation because I wore a mask on the face, and I am older school and respect the rules, which I know they made me go more slowly.
I knew it didn’t make sense to discuss the price, because if it does not see value in what you do, if it does not even understand what is there, any price will be high.
And I saw after the file folder on his desk that he felt he was already wasting time, even if I had just been sitting for a few minutes. Not to mention the fact that any amount greater than a few euros per month was considered expensive (the setting established by the accounting or billing applications).
“Come on, show me what you do, what kind of seller are you?”
I was telling me:
“A rather weak one, considering that I had worked as a programmer and I liked the philosophy at high school, but my parents told me that I would starve if I didn’t make me an engineer and that I can read those books in my free time. What I would have had time over time.”
“Aaaah, let me show you an idea … .aaah … to organize aaaah, be awake.”

It was ironic enough that I had to say something and move the laptop from one side to the other and to semi-respected to what I said, when for a lady, when the other.

He said so convinced that he had heard his emotion in Plex. And please don’t hear it, because it’s just his opinion.
At that time it was not clear to me how widespread this opinion was. I therefore saw that there is a correlation between mentality and age, but I was unable to generalize.
But now I am convinced that the accounting companies have the moral duty to fight with these archetypes of anti-hero and to position themselves differently, as a growth partner or as an entrepreneurial educators, otherwise they remain “a necessary evil”, and this does not even help them.
“Okay, come on, tell me how much it costs.”
I don’t even know what I told him, but I know it was the lowest price I could think, that he would not take us to the liman as far as we worked.
“Too expensive, we are poor, I told you. We have a job.”
I was already smiling. I had nothing to lose.
I tried an unsolved point, which laughed bitterly.
I’m going to leave.
“Stay. I don’t know who I spoke. You remained with that mask and you only saw your eyes, and they want to kill us with all these restrictions, the cheap agents close.”
And he continued to complain for a few minutes in the absolute truths of the time.
We go down the mask and now I remember that I had twisted mustache that project an image between the doors on me, in tune with the architecture of the building.
“Ah, alas, what an interesting young man.”
I took it as a compliment. At least that. I leaned with reverence and left with conflicting feelings.
I kept thinking about the situation, therefore, in the background, and a few months later it was the closure of the fourth.
I call her to ask her what she was doing, that an idea had come to me.
“What the Lord forgives me to do, I work! I stay until night. Today I can leave before 10.”
“I have something that could help you.”
“Eeei, nah! Do you have a robot? That only a robot can help me now.”
I am surprised at how he didn’t ask me to clon it. Which would have achieved better and more accurate results than the robot.

And I sent a bouquet of flowers to Uber.
He softened. He sent me a friendly and polite message of thanks.
I smiled in myself. We had come to communicate on a human level.
For a long time, I thought I had to act in the area of things seen, for example, databases in the accounting program.
But, in practice, things or invisible and unexpected emergencies were those that block growth or satisfaction at work. And they are not seen much, because no one inventory.
It is like a row of blows from the house every time it happens and then, at the end of the month, you wonder why you finished that good alcohol.
I’ve never heard of the lady.
But he calls me after a year.
“Hi. I don’t know if you know me. Stefan, I can’t, save me. I did what you said and assumed a junior. Give me a variant linked to what you do, but one for the poor.”
And let’s start talking and find out that he had taken fresh from the Faculty banks. Who had remained every day to beat them how to work and who did not give.
